Enrich the learning environment through the provision of varied activities to develop the capacity of staff, students, and parents and also give maximum opportunities for students’ intellectual, social, physical, and cultural growth and development.
To be recognized as a learning organization, that supports students from the underprivileged community, to get holistic education, so that they develop an all-around personality and become responsible global citizens.
Asmita came into existence on 1st May 1976 in the slum areas of Jogeshwari, Mumbai. In those days, basic infrastructure like electricity, water and road were not available.The area, then, was also a centre of anti-social elements.
Thus, with the basic mission of serving the poor and underprivileged people of the area, Asmita decided to take up activities in social, cultural and educational fields. The logo of Asmita was “YOU TAKE ONE STEP AND WE TAKE TEN”, and soon, Asmita became familiar and grew popular amongst the residents of the locality for its selfless services. Today, after 43 years, Asmita as a trust, is well on its way towards fulfilling its mission. It has grown from a small sapling to a big tree, from small services to multiple and large scale projects, touching, the lives of thousands of families living in the area!!
In 1976, a Book Bank was started to support educational needs of students. The volunteers collected used newspaper (Raddi) to raise money for this book bank. Then in 1978, 1st class of Pre-Primary was started with 51 students of Shishu Bal VikasMandir. Asmita had 1st school building Chatrapati Shivaji Shishu Vikas Mandir in Bandrekarwadi in 1980 and Asmita Bhavan on western express highway in 1997. Today more than thousand students are learning. School activities like Personality Development Camp for developing class group leaders, Prabhat Pheri with socioeconomic theme, Students Counsel, School Competitive Examinations, Sports and Hastalikhit are conducted for all-round development of students. Initiatives like Palak Mandal, MajiVIdhyartiSangh have ensured family feeling between Teachers, Students and Parents.
Asmita’s Cultural, traditional activities for women started with function like Haldikunkuby thousand ladies. This followed by stitching/Tailoring vocational for women. Makar Sankranti Utasav celebration, Balsanskar Kendra Training Centre for the Balwadi Teachers. For around 15 years Asmita held Natyamotsava in Jogeshwari where professional shows of Marathi theatre were held on the ground of Ismail Yusuf College. Also held Hemant Vyakhyanmala wherein many renowned speakers addressed Jogeshwari crowd. Asmita has been working for the physically challenged youth. It started with survey of physically challenged. Then held disabilities check-up camps for them. Now it has Manohar HariramChogle Centre at Boriwali for supporting physically challenged with artificial limbs, surgical procedure, physiotherapy, vocational education, rehabilitation, cultural activities.
We have three Pre-Primary Units at Bandrekarwadi, Ambika Nagar and Navshacha Pada in Aarey Colony at Jogeshwari. Apart from the basic education, children are taught to improve upon their health consciousness and personal hygiene at an early age.Right from their childhood, efforts are made to develop them in to ideal citizens of tomorrow. Upcoming need of formal education, we have included English conversation in the classrooms. Medical check-up of every student is being done during the year as a regular practice. Our Primary Vernacular medium school (Grade I to IV)aims to bring about academic, social and cultural development of students. Every year, our students’ achievements in scholarship examinations are remarkable. The School organizes different programmes like tree plantation, ‘Dindi’ on ‘Ashadhi Ekadashi’ day, elocution & story reciting competition on ‘Vyas Pournima’ and ‘Lokmanya Tilak Punyatithi’. To help children develop habit of saving, we run a scheme called ‘Dhanlaxmi’. Also under the scheme called ‘Ankur’, here we celebrate birthday of every student, as well as of teaching & non-teaching staff in a unique way.
This is our Vernacular medium secondary School (Grade V to S.S.C). As per the need and expectations of society, we have started Semi English classes. We have special English conversation classes for grade 5th to 7th students.The school organises many extracurricular activities such as aresidential personality development camp; Health check-up camp; Disaster management training sessions. We are having various clubs like Nature, IT, Language, Science, Mathematics etc. We are imparting coaching to students for various competitive examinations like National Talent Search, Olympiad, NMMS, Pravinya, Elementary & Intermediate drawing and Bal Vaidnyanik. All these activities are organised to enable the students to achieve all round development.
We are conducting job oriented skill development courses like GST tally, Computer IT, Beauty wellness, Mass media. A Jewellery Designing course was conducted in association with Uni-Design a well-known Jewellery manufacturing organization.
We have learning/knowledge centre on 4th floor of the school such as Tinkering Lab, Art room, Group Activity, E-library, Maths Lab, Music-Dance, Yoga room, Basic Engineering (Skill Development).
From the year 1989 Asmita has been working for the welfare of physically challenged atAshokvan, Kalyani Kendra, Borivali(E), Mumbai. The Entire ground floor of Kalyani Kendra building has been given to Asmita by Social Welfare Ministry of Maharashtra Government for running this centre. Here we develop the vocational skills of physically challenged in the areas of Tailoring, Painting, Handicraft etc. We also provide them with medical treatment like physiotherapy under expert guidance. The trust has organized transport facility for the handicapped students
RakshaBandhan’ festival is celebrated every year by sending “Rakhi” to all our donors and Volunteers. Similarly, each year on the festival of Makar Sankranti, Tilgul ceremony is arranged. Blood donation camp is organized on every 15th August, Independence Day of India in association with a reputed hospital of Mumbai. Various programs and teachers training are being organized on ‘Teachers Day’ every year.

To our school students and also to outsiders we offer regular training in Karate, Gymnastics, Mallakhamb, Rope Mallakhamb, Archery and Rope Skipping etc.Every year we arrange sports camp in summer called VasantikKridaShibir. For last 15 years we have been achieving awards and creating State, National and International Players in all above sports. We are known as the champion school for last 3 years in Mumbai for Archery, Karate and Rope Skipping.
To maintain the school environment clean and neat and create awareness among students and teachers about the importance of environment we have undertaken a new project ‘Vermicompost’. We produce vermicompost from school garbage. It is also Eco-friendly project. We use natural fertilizer for nourishment of plants in school premises.
Under this project, we run a Acupressure treatment for the local community.
This project is run with a view to enable ladies to become self reliant and thereby contribute to their families and the society. As a part of the project, a well-equipped kitchen has been provided by Asmita in the old school building, where women produce homemade food products. To cater to the current growing aspirations, of the students, this project as taken over for fulfillning the needs of the needy parents. ‘Asmita’ in coordination with parents association, provides earning opportunities to the parents, specifically housewives. This enables them to provide helping hand to their spouses to strengthen their back-up, especially educational needs of their children.
